the bike.
August 16, 2009
lucia bought a bike at the neighborhood sidewalk sale. then she put it in the car. and that was funny.

stay still…there’s a bike on you.
moving…again (and again)
August 16, 2009

and so, there is a community garden next door and dolores park a couple of blocks away and a three month commitment involved…all things i think i can handle right now! keys are picked up tomorrow and moving commences (with the help of my loving, able-bodied roommate Steve) and hopefully Chelsey and i will be able to cram all of our stuff into one room!
in the meantime, i will be packing. which i’m not doing right now because i’m merely writing about packing…but i will pack! after a cup of coffee. and lunch. THEN packing. yeah…
stay still…or you will be put into a box.
and thus, it begins (again)
August 13, 2009

so here is the part where i stay in san francisco, despite a very reasonable and amazing plan to return to austin. here’s the part where i feel that i will regret leaving this city just as i really feel that i am getting to know it. without the 2 hour commute to a shitty job and a boyfriend that occupies at least a minimal amount of my time. here is the part where i scare the shit out of myself because i quit my job a month ago and don’t, yet, have another one!
but here is also the part where i really do try as hard as i can, with all of the creative energy in my body, and all of the ambitious determination i can muster, to find my way here in san francisco. i will push until i run out of money or energy. (and then i will push a little more). and then we will see what happens.
now is not the time to stay still. now is the time to climb to the top of the tower.

the latest adventures
June 9, 2009
it has been a busy few months—i made a trip to austin, heidi came to visit, blake and i celebrated our one year anniversary, and renee is on her way here in a couple of weeks! this weekend (monday and tuesday for me, anyhow) has been pretty nice–got to catch up on scanning some polaroids and posting some pictures. here are some of the best from the last little while:

my new digs
May 11, 2009
so, i’m up in the loftic (loft+attic) and it is pretty awesome. it has very, very bright natural light from the front window and two skylights. i’ve woken up at 7am each morning from the morning light–especially because my bed is facing the window (awesome!)–but have managed to go right back to sleep, so far! the ceilings are quite low, but it is manageable. i only bump my head a couple of times a day. we’re working on the downstairs now, too, trying to get it all organized, clean and decorated. i’m always finding new home projects! maybe someday it will be on my own house!
for now, i am very happy here, with a full kitchen, awesome roomies (lucia and nino) and a gorgeous loftic. complete with a non-collapsing closet!
here are some pictures!
stay still…live in the same place for more than 6 months!
the south
April 14, 2009
so we returned, reluctantly, from our vacation to savannah and charleston. it was a great trip–i got to feel the introduction to summer in the south (yay, heat! blake was miserable anywhere above 75 degrees…) but it still remained chilly at night. savannah was amazing…the whole town built around parks and courtyard gardens. a much smaller scale than charleston, you could feel the presence of the college of art and design (albeit there are buildings for the school everywhere) as little glimmers of contemporary art permeated the rich southern history of the architecture and mood of the town

charleston was much more, oh, ritzy, i guess? there were more men walking around in pastel polos with sweaters tied around their shoulders than i have seen outside of an easter ralph lauren advertisement. and everything was priced for tourists in the area where we were, but i suppose we were tourists… it was a strange mentality there, where you could very much tell that this was where men fought to preserve slavery. very strange.

we saw historic homes, toured fort sumpter where the first civil war battle took place (by the way, the first two casualties of the civil war did not occur during the 34 hour battle for the fort, they occurred during the 100 cannon salute after the fort had been surrendered) we went into an old prison/dungeon where prisoners were kept during the time of america’s fight for independence from the british, we ate some rowdy southern food at a great little southern cafe, we went to an art museum where the first work of art done by an african american was acquired just a couple of decades ago (and they didn’t know it was by a black artist until later—oops!) and saw a great installation by two art professors about the role of african americans in the community and their representation in the museum, we went too a 500 acre plantation that was probably one of the most gorgeous things i’ve seen, we went to an african village located between charleston and savannah, we went to an antique print store where i geeked out hardcore and blake bought me a souvenir, we saw many, many cannons, and we chonicled the growth of blake’s beard. it was a good trip!

here is the slideshow of all of the photos…

pacifica. not just a day at the beach. well, actually…yeah, it was a day at the beach
March 10, 2009
the weather was gorgeous, and although it wasn’t what i would call “warm” i scooped up lucia and bobby and we went to the beach! jackson (kinda) played in the water, and ran freely on the beach for a while, and we hiked to the top of the cliff and sat in the gorgeousness for a while. it was good!

here are all of the pictures!
stay still…you can smell the ocean.
