in the fifties
March 9, 2009
it’s in the fifties right now. it’s been in the fifties and it’s going to be in the fifties. it has been gorgeous out ever since it stopped raining but i am still a texas girl and wish it were about 10 degrees warmer!
saw the new public art installation on columbus and broadway the other night–it’s near city lights bookstore and is a group of illuminated flying books—they’re gorgeous!

stay still…and someone might decorate you!
galoshes
February 23, 2009
this series of photos came to light during the countless hours spent on, or waiting for, public transportation while it is rainy. and now it is an obsession. however, i only wear the galoshes when it is, indeed, rainy!

stay still…people are trying to get off of the bus.
first show…
February 22, 2009
so, here it is! the first show that i will have any work up in…and it is a polaroid show, to boot! how appropriate… once i finish the series, i’ll be sure to put the photos up here, as well as some shots from the opening! it’s on march 20th, so while some of you people will be at sxsw rocking your faces off, at least i won’t be sitting at home wishing i was there.
yay for the awesome show flyer!

i am one of three jessicas–it is a jessicatastic show!
stay still…or you’ll be named jessica, too.
my eye is twitching and i can’t stop sneezing.
December 31, 2008
what better place to go when you can’t stop sneezing than the museum of modern art! the sound reverberates like you’re in a concert hall. it’s great! it was nice, though, because on a tuesday the sfmoma isn’t quite as insanely crowded. read: i could see the artwork! there were some really great works, some artists i was familiar with, some not. highlights?

this was a huge roll of paper on an old Associated Press news ticker. it just kept feeding story after story from the AP and the paper sort of never ends. it just piles up on the floor. it was great.

great.

not sure if it reads here, but there are so many more branches in this image. it is a photograph that the artist painted on with gouache. so she sort of created this tree out of another tree by selectively allowing certain branches to show. it is huge and gorgeous.

joseph albers work–it’s awesome in person. this is the gentleman who my design professor, Shawn McKinney, told me one of my projects resembled. i took it as a compliment! here’s that project…we had to design words of our choosing on 4+ panels. i chose you are my sunshine:

it was great to go to the museum, by myself, wander around at my leisure and see what i wanted, skip what i wanted! great place to go sneeze on your day off. then, bikram yoga! didn’t sneeze much there–too hot to sneeze!
well, last day of 2008 tomorrow, that’s fairly ridiculous, really! i am ill-prepared to deal with 2009 as the year. good things ahead, though! weddings, and new presidents and a plethora of other amazing new excitement! for now, i am going to bed. sweating that much takes it out of ya!
stay still…you’ll sweat from placed you diidn’t know you could!

as if i need more things to frame and put on my wall…even so, i want all of these. seriously, all of them. the small stakes
stay still…and stop thinking about all of those posters.
save polaroid? absolutely.
July 31, 2008
i’m still in awe that they would decide to stop the manufacture of polaroid film…especially when it seems that the format itself is having a bit of a revival. perhaps it’s a catch 22–now becoming more popular because it’s going away, going away because it’s only now becoming more popular.
regardless, i am gritting my teeth and springing for an increasingly expensive pack of film whenever i can to add to my favorite wall of photos.
what if we all click here? wonder if we can actually save polaroid.
stay still…or the picture will be blurry.
renegade art and mysterious things…
July 24, 2008
people love mystery. we’re intrigued by it. then we try and try to figure it out. when we do, we often wish we hadn’t!
maybe we should stop looking?
what about bansky?
stay still…just enjoy.
good tv…seriously!
July 21, 2008
this weekend i got stuck on the couch unable to change the channel—but i don’t feel stupider for it. i found this new(-ish) station devoted to the arts, and it’s really interesting! it seems to be leaning towards progressive and contemporary–not stuck in historic works and “great masters”.
in my opinion, getting stuck in front of the boob tube watching Basquiat, a short documentary on Jackson Pollock, and profiles on galleries across the country is a great “waste of time”.
