christine just left—which makes me sad. but i suppose i would have been sadder had she not come at all! we got to spend the weekend traipsing around san francisco ducking into zine shops and vintage stores, and finding the best little indian fast food restaurants and margarita specials. well, she found the margarita specials! took in a show at the boom boom room (there’s no way a place like that can’t be fun!) and had a barbeque in my yardlet with matt, adam, bobby, ping, blake and friends. the weather was actually quite warm to begin, but rounded out by getting a bit chilly! all in all it was a great weekend and i am so happy we got to spend the time

thanksgiving is next week, and i’ll get to spend some time with my family. so then i’ll just have to start down the list and get each of my friends to come visit so that i don’t get too homesick! who’s next???

stay still…make them come to you!

night shots in san mateo

apparently, i have moved to the city with the highest percentage of single people out of any US city. 44.7% of people here are single! the first thing i do when i get here? get a boyfriend. he is awesome and amazing, by the way. coincidence? maybe. either way, i think that i should start encouraging my single friends to join me here in the bay area!

so casey is here and we’re playing in san mateo (riding bikes in the rain, after a few beers! wheeee!) and in san francisco tonight! and tomorrow i get to start moving into my new place! and i have two whole days off! and, yeah! awesome! for now, i will be rejoining the real world where i have to work.

stay still…someone will find you.

i got an apartment!!!

September 17, 2008

so, after weeks of crashing at blake’s and searching for an apartment that takes dogs (of which there are 3) i have finally found an aparment! it’s tiny—like, really tiny! but it has indoor plumbing! and all bills included, and storage and a washer/dryer and the lady who lives in the house above me (this is an “in-law” unit) seems really cool! and, the best part–it has a front yard!!! so jackson has room to roam (and poop) and hang out so he’s not confined to the 350 square foot (i really think it’s about that size!) room that i’m renting! also, it’s in a pretty cool part of town. kind of like the east side in austin—lots of taquerias, and lots of cool hole-in-the-wall bars.

so, ikea, here i come! they can show me how to live in the tiniest place imaginable! ryan and renee, i’m remembering the time you guys sat in one of the fake apartments in ikea and invited people to come in, take a seat, make themselves at home! and thank god i sold all my furniture, cuz that shit ain’t fitting in here, folks!

i’ll take pictures once i’m in and make the place pretty! i get to move in just after October 1st…then i have to work some magicĀ on the place! ooh, project!

here’s a picture of the facade from the street—the one i got is behind the wooden fence. it’s great, there’s a whole garden/yard area with these gorgeous blooming trees and a little patio set (i think i’ll call the patio my living room!) and the house is set back from the street.

woo hoo!

stay still…things will settle themselves in time.

things i’m missing

September 16, 2008

so, i was going through my over-filled email inbox, trying to stay sort of organized, and was reading a bunch of old emails from the last six months! oh, man! the memories conjured up with little tidbits of conversation speedily shot into the electronic mail system! south by southwest, hummus recipes, silly dreams, all the ladies nights, parties, kickball—it’s making me miss austin quite a bit! that’s what i get for trying to stay organized…

that, and a quarter gets you 4 minutes on a parking meter in downtown san francisco. 4 minutes!!!

stay still…for $3.75 an hour

jeez. they weren’t kidding when they said it wasn’t easy to find a place here…jackson’s going to have to get a paper route or something! and i’ll have to disguise him as my short hairy boyfriend. the search is still on, which means i am still living out of a suitcase at blake’s house. at least he’s being sweet about it! secretly bitching about me behind my back, i’m sure! nah, i make the bed.

anyway, still getting into the swing of things, haven’t really been able to get settled yet due to the lack of place–but soon! i’ll keep you guys up to date!

stay still…or they’ll raise your rent!

chased by storms

September 2, 2008

it was a good drive, and i made it the whole way! there was a scourge of grasshoppers on the side of the road for miles through new mexico, storms chasing me from el paso to arizona, and tiny ghost towns with no public restrooms through central california. now, i’m taking up blake’s space, my stuff is in storage, i am searching for an apartment, taking the bart and the trolley to work, and wearing sweaters! whoa…

stay still…unless you’re driving across the country–then, keep going!

from first to third…

August 14, 2008

so, apparently, i am moving from the city that placed first, yes FIRST in “hard drinking” by Forbes, to the city that placed third! well, that ought to be a little bit better, oughtn’t it!? either that or i am going to show up and the whole city is going to think i’m a total lush..

this link will tell you all about it!

so, i started boxing my things last night…literally punching my things in the face and telling them to “go to san francisco!”…and it is a bit strange. i took the polaroid wall down, which seemed pretty sentimental and–oh, i don’t know–real! and boxing up the books. the easiest and heaviest boxes to pack! i’m really going to try to be discriminating about what i haul across the country, but i can’t seem to part with the books. oh well. three boxes ain’t too bad…

so, here’s hoping that i can find an apartment in san francisco p.d.q. to put all this stuff i’m packing so carefully!

apparently, too, i’ve missed seeing david hasselhoff in san francisco by a mere two weeks. bummer.

stay still…hasselhoff is like a t-rex, only sees motion!
