in the fifties
March 9, 2009
it’s in the fifties right now. it’s been in the fifties and it’s going to be in the fifties. it has been gorgeous out ever since it stopped raining but i am still a texas girl and wish it were about 10 degrees warmer!
saw the new public art installation on columbus and broadway the other night–it’s near city lights bookstore and is a group of illuminated flying books—they’re gorgeous!

stay still…and someone might decorate you!
some other photographs that i like
February 23, 2009
in no particular order.
this is the gorgeous ceiling at the Great American Music Hall. i want this to be my ceiling…

the letters in front of the doors at The Greens Hotel in Sacramento

a very cool looking bowling alley in sacramento.

this gorgeous…plot, i guess…in historic sacramento on what used to be the street level, but now is below. all that remains in this spot are the columns and the staircase.

a post-it stuck to the side of a building on the street susannah and i were walking down. i took a polaroid of it, and then put the post-it on the back of the polaroid. it says “i love you.”

ice cream on a sunny day.

me on not a sunny day.

the letter that mom wrote me that got soaking wet in the mailbox and i couldn’t read at all…

bobby at el rio, underneath a ginormous, colorful lady. i love that she is petting his head.

stay still…they’re all out of order.
galoshes
February 23, 2009
this series of photos came to light during the countless hours spent on, or waiting for, public transportation while it is rainy. and now it is an obsession. however, i only wear the galoshes when it is, indeed, rainy!

stay still…people are trying to get off of the bus.
first show…
February 22, 2009
so, here it is! the first show that i will have any work up in…and it is a polaroid show, to boot! how appropriate… once i finish the series, i’ll be sure to put the photos up here, as well as some shots from the opening! it’s on march 20th, so while some of you people will be at sxsw rocking your faces off, at least i won’t be sitting at home wishing i was there.
yay for the awesome show flyer!

i am one of three jessicas–it is a jessicatastic show!
stay still…or you’ll be named jessica, too.
I heart my family.
February 13, 2009
happy birthday, again, dad! (i win so much this year jordan!) i miss you guys very much, but am glad i get to talk to you so often. now i just need to up my minutes on my phone bill…
i can’t wait until i get access to all of the wedding pictures–there are so many that i want to have! but, alas, i don’t keep that many printed photos around. all of mine are virtual. digital, if you will!
anyway, here are a few keepers from the pics that me and my friends took over the wedding! can’t wait to have the professional ones…

there’s more to come…not enough time in the day for all of the pictures
stay still…i love you.
blogging my brains out!
February 9, 2009
so, i’m up late. i am off tomorrow (today, i suppose) and tuesday and have my first apartment therapy blog post! it is scheduled to go up at 12:15 pacific coast time, as are the rest of my posts! so, monday thru friday, at 12:15 you can read a snippet of design junk from my brain and my online design voyages! (www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf)
it has been pretty fun having “assignments” and work that isn’t related to my day job. i really have to get some new magazine subscriptions, though. i can’t believe Domino is gone—that really sucks. although i am glad i didn’t renew my subscription two months ago when they sent me a notice…that would have been pretty frustrating! (what if they were one renewal away from being able to stay afloat…shit.)
ok. i just realized how tired i am. it’s 2:18am. i am an idiot for still being awake.
stay still…stop tossing and turning and sleep already!
things and stuff
January 11, 2009
drove back from ventura today, and it was gorgeous. there were clear skies and a cool breeze the whole way, and a six hour drive was not so bad when you’re the one reading the trivia questions, not the one driving! (nerd alert…) had lunch in san luis obispo, toured around a little and saw this amazing thing on a bank building, i think, of all places

saw this, too. it is strange. a memorial, perhaps? to a nice woman who deserved having a huge wooden painting of her face on the side of a hill with a huge wooden painting of some flowers, also?

drove through Gilroy, too, which is the Garlic Capital of the World. they have a store with many, many garlic products. and many kinds of breath mints. in all, it was a great trip. to go back in time, we went to a very old pier in ventura, which was amazing. so much ocean! i’m still not used to the fact that i live right near the ocean…

oh, and wait, here’s a different kind of picture of blake and i…it’s not me holding the camera out at arm’s length with just a different background…

yeah. pretty close, though. but we both clean up pretty well, eh? let’s see, back in time, back in time…oh, it was foggy and awesome thursday night! this is looking down mission street:

hmm. back in time more. we went to the beach near our house, too. brought jackson to a beach in pacifica–i’m not sure jackson had ever really walked in sand before! it was pretty awesome.

um, so here is the painting that i made for blake for christmas. i wanted to get him a rad concert poster, but he decided that he wants nautically themed artwork now, so i decided to make him something! i think it came out pretty well, if i do say so myself!

wow, so this post is image heavy and covers a pretty broad spanse of time…and i realized that i kind of skipped christmas! i need to post more often! for now, i am letting the pictures do the work. so, here’s christmas.

i suppose that is it for now. perhaps i will post more frequently for a bit… in the meantime, i gots to go to bed!
stay still…too long and you’ll get behind!
my eye is twitching and i can’t stop sneezing.
December 31, 2008
what better place to go when you can’t stop sneezing than the museum of modern art! the sound reverberates like you’re in a concert hall. it’s great! it was nice, though, because on a tuesday the sfmoma isn’t quite as insanely crowded. read: i could see the artwork! there were some really great works, some artists i was familiar with, some not. highlights?

this was a huge roll of paper on an old Associated Press news ticker. it just kept feeding story after story from the AP and the paper sort of never ends. it just piles up on the floor. it was great.

great.

not sure if it reads here, but there are so many more branches in this image. it is a photograph that the artist painted on with gouache. so she sort of created this tree out of another tree by selectively allowing certain branches to show. it is huge and gorgeous.

joseph albers work–it’s awesome in person. this is the gentleman who my design professor, Shawn McKinney, told me one of my projects resembled. i took it as a compliment! here’s that project…we had to design words of our choosing on 4+ panels. i chose you are my sunshine:

it was great to go to the museum, by myself, wander around at my leisure and see what i wanted, skip what i wanted! great place to go sneeze on your day off. then, bikram yoga! didn’t sneeze much there–too hot to sneeze!
well, last day of 2008 tomorrow, that’s fairly ridiculous, really! i am ill-prepared to deal with 2009 as the year. good things ahead, though! weddings, and new presidents and a plethora of other amazing new excitement! for now, i am going to bed. sweating that much takes it out of ya!
stay still…you’ll sweat from placed you diidn’t know you could!
yard and dresser
December 10, 2008
so, my yard has beautiful purple flowers in it right now! and i got a dresser…finally! it is the perfect size for my partment, and has great pulls! it is solid wood, and is in great condition. it was $25 on craigslist! hell yeah. so, the question now is whether to paint it…and if so, what color. currently, it’s a pretty cool shade of green that’s a complementary shade to my walls, and somehow goes with the suitcase and metal file cabinet thing i have next to it! but it is “distressed” and might look nice all freshly painted. but then, what color? black laquer would look kinda sweet, leaving the pulls the same as they are…or white, spray the pulls black…whaddya think? either way, it’s nice to have a place to put my undies! need to rearrange my mirror/chair situation a little, but it is a vast improvement in the clothing storage department of my partment…

ooh, and thanks again to renee, who got me a bitchin vintage brownie starmeter camera because she loves me! and to christine because she got me a bitchin fisheye camera because she loves me! and thanks to jordan who put a whale in my early thanksgiving-christmas stocking because he loves me…i strangely love it!

stay still…and watch the flowers. and the whales.(?)
